Emotional Wellbeing Programme for Schools

Helping pupils and staff develop practical ways to understand emotions, manage pressure and grow in confidence — with skills they can use at school, at home and in everyday life.

The Pressures Pupils and Schools are Facing

Children and young people are navigating academic, social and emotional pressures every day. Expectations are high, change can feel constant, and many pupils are still developing the skills they need to manage their emotions and behaviour effectively.

Schools are also working hard to support pupils while managing challenges around attendance, behaviour, emotional wellbeing and staff workload. Staff are balancing increasing demands while continuing to create safe, supportive learning environments.

When pupils understand their feelings and learn how to respond rather than react, schools often notice improvements in confidence, focus and behaviour — as well as stronger relationships with staff and peers.

These are life skills — not just classroom skills.

Evidence of Impact

In one four-week case study of the programme, pupils reported increased happiness alongside reductions in anxiety, anger and sadness. While every school is different, many observe similar shifts when emotional skills are taught consistently and reinforced by staff.

How the Emotional Management Programme Helps

I deliver the Emotional Management Programme (EMP) in primary and secondary schools across Kent through my accreditation with the Happiness Club.

The programme introduces practical techniques that help children and young people:

  • recognise and understand their emotions
  • calm themselves when feelings run high
  • make more considered choices
  • build confidence and resilience
  • respond more positively to challenges

This isn’t about adding another initiative. It’s about giving pupils language and tools they can practise regularly, while supporting staff so those tools become part of everyday school life.

How It Can Be Delivered

The core programme runs over four sessions and is shaped around your school’s timetable.

In primary schools, sessions are short, engaging and interactive, introducing techniques that help children calm themselves, shift their thinking and make considered choices.

In secondary schools, 60-minute sessions are adapted for older pupils, focusing on managing pressure, building confidence and navigating key stages such as transition and exams.

In addition to the full programme, some schools choose to focus on specific needs — for example running transition workshops to support pupils moving into a new year group or school. Sessions can also be delivered as an after-school programme if that works better within your timetable. Every school is different, so the structure can be shaped around your priorities and schedule.

A staff workshop is included with the full programme so the language and techniques can be reinforced consistently throughout the school.
