Why Slowing Down This Autumn Might Be the Smartest Thing You Do

November 4, 2025

In my last article I talked about how energy dips for many of us when we move into Autumn and how to boost your energy and adapt. Pretty essential as it’s just when work, life and deadlines start to pile up. It’s that strange mismatch of seasons: our bodies whisper rest, but the world shouts go.

If you’ve been feeling tired, unfocused or stretched thin lately, it’s not just you – it’s biology.

Why You Feel the Pull to Slow Down

This time of year, nature starts to wind down. Animals conserve energy, find warmth, and shift their routines. But humans? We do the opposite — longer workdays, fuller diaries, endless to-do lists.

5 Ways to Protect Your Energy (and Still Get Things Done)

You might not be able to drop everything, but you can bring more balance into your days — small, steady shifts that make a big difference:

  1. Be realistic about what’s possible. If your energy’s lower, scale things back. Do what truly matters and let the rest wait.
  2. Start and end gently. A quiet cuppa, a short stretch, or a short walk at the start of the day; soft lighting, gratitude, or journalling at the end.
  3. Pause properly. Between tasks or calls, take a single minute to breathe or step outside.
  4. Practise saying “not right now.” It protects your focus without guilt.
  5. Stay connected. Like sheep huddling for warmth, we need each other too. Reach out — you’re not the only one feeling it.

Why Slowing Down Isn’t Weakness

Many of us have what I call superhero tendencies – that push to keep performing, hold it all together, finish strong. But that constant striving can quietly drain the very energy we need most.

🐢Slowing down isn’t quitting; it’s recalibrating. Nature doesn’t rush – yet everything gets done.

🍂Autumn invites release. Trees shed their leaves not out of loss, but to lighten their load.

Maybe we can take that cue, too.

Ask yourself: What could I let go of right now to make space for what matters most? Because life’s too short to keep proving you’re enough – especially when you already are.

Have you found it easy or hard to slow down this season? What helps you protect your energy when life speeds up?

I’d love to hear what’s been working for you – share your thoughts or drop me a message.
